We took sort-of a spontaneous trip to the beach last weekend since we had Monday off.

We decided a few weeks ago that it had been too long, we were too tired, needed a break, etc. – so we looked at our frequent flyer miles and looked at a map and chose Amelia Island, FL.

Neither of us had been there or knew anything about it, but the flight(s) to Jacksonville looked quick and easy + it was easy to get to from the airport + some googling showed it didn’t look overly crowded/crazy. So, it won.

FABULOUS weekend.

We splurged a little on the lodging since we’d used miles to get there and stayed at Elizabeth Pointe Lodge.

So worth it. Highly recommended.

Breakfast each day was a typical hotel-style buffet:

Lovely place.

We left after work on Friday, so we got in sort of late and went straight to sleep. Saturday, though? We had planned to “relax” – which wound up meaning eating + reading + walking + bike riding.

We took a walk on the beach pretty early that morning and were alone for most of it.

Rented bikes shortly thereafter and rode to – and around – Fort Clinch State Park.

I remembered to turn my app on a few miles into it.

It was approximately 1,000 degrees and INCREDIBLY humid – so it was a sweaty endeavor.

And buggy.

We finally just stopped stopping because I had to dance around each time to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

It was a lot of fun, though.

And beautiful.

Jon wanted to ride into the downtown(ish)(I think?)/historic area for lunch after leaving the state park – which we did – but I was soaked. Like, literally soaking wet from the ride/heat/humidity – so I pitched a fit and we turned around and went back to shower again/change before going to lunch.

There’s just no way I was sitting around in wet underwear for hours on end.

We wound up eating lunch both days at Pablo’s Mexican Grill and Cantina, but this is the only picture I came home with.

So good + so hungry I couldn’t wait, I guess.

I haven’t been able to eat this sort of thing in ages because of the gallbladder drama, but had no problem whatsoever this time around.

We did some walking/exploring …

… but the rest of Saturday was spent taking a nap + like this:

We ate dinner at The Crab Trap – which was ok.

Split a bunch of stuff.

Sunday was lazier.

We spent many hours reading that morning. I don’t think we moved from probably 8a-noon – except to readjust our chairs under the umbrella as the sun moved.

Untitled

Lunch happened at Pablo’s again + another nap happened + we went to the hotel’s social/wine + cheese thing + did more sitting around until the sun went down.

We wound up ordering room service for dinner + eating in bed – a vacation novelty I adore.

Woke up Monday morning to the sounds of a 5k.

Untitled

Sat around for a while, packed up and then went home.

So glad we went.
