We had an almost normal weekend – something I’m pretty surprised about since Jon’s release from the hospital happened just a week ago (Sunday).

We hung out at home most of Saturday morning before going to a local street fair (Happy Hollerpalooza) to look at street fair things.

We spent a few hours at home after that so Jon could rest – but then ventured downtown to walk a little more later in the day.

It was a gorgeous day, so I’m glad we were able to get some low-key activity in outside.

(I look at the pictures I drove them crazy taking and still can’t believe this man had (has?) cancer and just had surgery. It’s unbelievable.)

Sunday, we drove about an hour and a half NW to check out a farm (and pick up a meat order). We’ve been buying West Wind Farms (Organic & Grassfed Meats & Poultry) stuff for a while from various local stores that happen to carry their products. I wanted to actually see the place, though. I didn’t need a tour – just need to know it exists beyond a label.

(Random cows – not the farm – that we encountered on some road as we drove around in circles with a completely hopeless gps.)

The woman at the farm was extremely kind and helpful and gave us information about checking out some nearby trails that lead to an overlook + huge boulders. We weren’t exactly dressed for it – and I’m generally fairly anxious taking off on unknown trails (after once encountering a bear) – but we checked it out anyway (it was short).

Another gorgeous day.

So – we’ve got a freezer full of meat and information about where to pick up future orders closer to home.

Nice day.

Jon’s increased energy definitely = more cooking.

The highlight of the weekend? Paleo Pumpkin Chili (supposed to be over spaghetti squash, but we didn’t do that, nor did he make the “drizzle”)

I was prepared to hate it since I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin (other than pie) – but I didn’t. It’s basically turkey, onion, tomatoes, pumpkin, cilantro, pumpkin ale beer, butternut squash, garlic, chili powder, green peppers, nutmeg, cinnamon, EVOO.

Make this.

Up today? An appointment with my trainer + a follow-up with Jon’s surgeon. Hopefully some good will come from both.
