My wife, Sarah, started this blog mid-2008, and I have decided to join her as a contributor in 2009. Here is a little bit of info about me:
- 40 year old man.
- Married, with dog (Henry, the world’s cutest Cairn Terrier).
- 4 great kids from a previous marriage, who live in the same town.
- A job in sales, requiring a lot of travel, sometimes making fitness very difficult!
After many years of sedentary living, I found myself weighing 256 pounds at the beginning of 2008. My fitness level was horrible. For a guy who used to love running and hiking, it was a sad thing to find myself getting winded walking up a few flights of stairs. When I went to the doctor for a physical, he told me I was fat. I realized I’d better change my life, or it would probably be a short-lived one. Sarah and I made a commitment to try and lose weight in 2008 and we feel like we’ve been quite successful.
On January 1, 2009, I weighed in at 199 pounds. My pants size went from a 38 waist to a 34. My focus on weight loss paid off! Along the way, I’ve become much more aware of the importance of healthy living and fitness. This is to be my focus for the coming year: achieving optimal fitness. I’ve come a long way, but I have a long way to go. Sarah and I will be doing it together, and we’re happy to have you share in our journey!

Jon, you look great! I’m inspired just seeing y’all’s journey in this. I’m hoping our new Wii Fit will inspire me, too. 42 isn’t too kind to the ol’ bod, ya know! Press on! You too, Sarah!

Thank you! Good luck with the Wii Fit. I hope to do more with ours as well. My Mii is still pretty round!

Jon, just wanted to say how impressive your transformation has been and I can’t wait to see your body composition continue to change. Who says you can’t be fit and have abs in your 40s!
Looking forward to seeing you at CrossFit Ktown,

Thanks, Jessie! I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to actually see those abs, but I’ll keep working hard to develop ‘em!
